Program at PCA

The program is open to currently enrolled PCA students in Pre-K through 8th grade. This program is exclusively for PCA families — it is not open to the general public.

Students will primarily use the Lower Campus cafeteria and playground. If the cafeteria is needed for a school event, an alternate approved space will be used and families will be notified. Weather permitting, students will always have outdoor time.

The program begins immediately at the end of the school day. Pickup is flexible — anytime between 2:45 PM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You do not have to wait until 6:00 PM.

Registration is offered by the full week only — we are not able to offer individual day sign-ups at this time due to staffing ratios. However, you choose which weeks you register for, so you only pay for the weeks your child attends. Part-time options will be evaluated as the program grows.

Yes! Each afternoon includes one hour of structured homework time. Staff will be available to support students, though our staff are not certified tutors or teachers. The program is designed to balance academics with play — students also enjoy physical activity, structured activities, and social time each day.

Students will participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities including:

• Outdoor play and physical activity
• Arts and crafts
• STEM activities
• Group games and team-building
• Structured enrichment opportunities

Screen time is very limited and not part of the regular schedule. The focus is on active, hands-on engagement and social connection.

Transportation after the program is not available at this time. All students must be picked up from campus by an approved parent, guardian, or authorized pickup person no later than 6:00 PM. We understand this can be a challenge and will continue to evaluate community needs as the program grows.

• YMCA Members: $64 per week
• Non-Members: $90 per week
• One-time registration fee: $30

Only full-week registration is available. Financial assistance may be available for qualifying families through the YMCA. Contact the YMCA for details.

Yes — the afterschool program follows the PCA school calendar and operates on regular school days. Care is also offered on teacher workdays and school breaks, held at the YMCA facility in New Bern. Some of these days may be included in weekly tuition; others may require an additional fee. Families will be notified in advance.
